CPE Machinery was excited to deliver the first new 50 metre Stationary Placing Boom in Australia to Select Plant Hire. Laing O’Rourke was awarded the contract to build four large Cryogenic LNG Tanks as part of the $34B Ichthy’s LNG Project in Darwin, NT.

PROJECT NAME: Ichthys LNG

LOCATION: Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia

CONTRACTORS & PUTZMEISTER EQUIPMENT:

Select Plant Hire / Laing O’Rourke – 1 x 50M Stationary Placing Boom and 1 x BSA2109 High Pressure Trailer Pump

SUMMARY:

With the largest of tanks spanning 90 metres in diameter and 40 metres in height, the slipform construction method required a placing boom to be centred in the tank and to be capable of reaching the full circumference of the tank at maximum height.

CPE Machinery and Putzmeister equipment was chosen as the preferred concrete placing supplier to Select Plant Hire (the equipment hire arm of Laing O’Rourke) because Putzmeister was one of the few suppliers to have previously manufactured the monster 50 metre placing boom. “It was able to prove its equipment was capable of completing the task” explains Chris Conway, Select Plant’s Operations Manager.

A Putzmeister BSA2109 High Pressure Trailer Pump and all necessary pipelines and equipment also complemented the full package CPE Machinery was able to offer.

The Itchthys LNG Project is currently in construction and ranked among the most significant oil and gas projects in the world. Located about 220 kilometres offshore Western Australia, Ichthys represents the largest discovery of hydrocarbon liquids in Australia in 40 years. The Project is expected to produce 8.9 million tonnes of LNG and 1.6 million tonnes of LPG per annum, along with more than 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak. Gas and condensate from the Ichthys Field will be exported to onshore facilities for processing near Darwin via an 890 kilometre pipeline. Project completion is expected early 2018.
